Web Development

Web developers all over Twitter have been loud about their earnings since last year. Over 60 billion USD went to the web development market in 2022, and this figure continues to grow with new online stores taking shape, personal brand owners, and influencers leveraging the internet for new ways to make money.

Nigerian web developers have not been left out of the fold this time. To get paid in dollars today, you can register for a web development course from a paid page like Udemy or enroll for well-structured courses built to help Africans gain tech skills, like ALX. The downside of ALX is that the course takes over a year to complete, but Udemy and other paid courses would be at your own pace.

Once you’re sure of your skillset as a web developer, you can begin by creating a LinkedIn profile and applying for jobs.

Content Writing

Another job that pays in dollars in Nigeria is content writing. Whether you choose to chase the path of freelancing or seek employment, content writers are highly sought after, and tens to hundreds of ads go on LinkedIn daily for them.

If you have a background in writing, nurturing your skills to write for an online audience and mastering SEO can boost your income rapidly and help you earn dollars.

Product Design

A product designer is someone who designs a new product to fit market trends for companies. Big brands look for product designers to help them keep their products in the right way for the market. Small brands about to start also need a product designer. Simply put, no matter the size, a product designer is needed as long as a product is created and distributed.

This thought alone should tell you just how many opportunities lie in the industry.

Digital Marketing

I mentioned earlier that new online stores open every day. As these stores need a web developer, they also need a digital marketer. Digital marketing is a marketing form that uses all platforms online to promote and grow an online brand.

Becoming a digital marketer increases your chances of getting paid in dollars in Nigeria.

Data Analysis

Data Analysts gather and use data to help brands make informed decisions on their operations, customer behavior, and market trends. In today’s world, data has become even more necessary to run and start a business. This has impacted the digital world by making data analysts one of the most sought-after by companies of all sizes.

Social Media Management

Another online job that pays in dollars in Nigeria is social media management. Are you good at engaging with people online? Then there might be a position for you.

Graphic Designing

Graphic design is perhaps one of the most underrated skills that can actually make you earn in dollars in Nigeria. Most people already have this skill. It’s highly competitive because it’s almost easy to learn, and free channels on YouTube are dedicated to teaching graphic design.

But if you’re good at it, you can pave the way for yourself in this industry and secure a job with a foreign company.

Virtual Assistant

Not commonly known among Nigerians, but virtual assistants have become a thing recently. Companies of different sizes work remotely now, it’s only natural to expect that assistants would be hired to do their jobs remotely, too.

Virtual assistants are people who offer administrative services remotely. They are administrative assistants who work from home.

Copywriting

Copywriting has been said repeatedly, to the point when I started my writing journey, I was forced to learn it, too. But the hype around this skill is in no way exaggerated. Copywriters are some of the most highly sought-after writers with good pay.

A copywriter is a professional who specializes in creating written content, known as “copy,” for the purpose of advertising or marketing.

Website Managing

Running a website is no easy feat, especially for big companies putting out tens of content daily with many writers on their payroll. It’s usually necessary to have someone manage the website, keep track of everything going on, and ensure its business as always.

A website manager, also known as a webmaster or website administrator, is a professional responsible for overseeing and maintaining the day-to-day operations of a website.

  2. Target Internships and Entry-Level Jobs: Don’t be tricked into applying for senior positions just yet. The pay for these positions is big, but it also means you don’t have enough experience and expertise to win them just yet. So, target the low-hanging fruits and build on them.
  3. Build Portfolio: ALX and Udemy might give you certificates, but working on personal projects or helping friends set up their websites for discount fees can help you build a portfolio to secure entry-level positions easily.
  4. Apply Like Crazy: One job application a month might take you years to finally get the position. You need to make sure you apply almost every day. (How to write an application letter)
